IAOA Supports 2026 International Conference on Advanced Functional Materials in Wuhan
The 2026 International Conference on the Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration and Application of Advanced Functional Materials was held from 10–12 September 2026 at Wuhan Institute of Technology (WIT), with IAOA participating as an international supporting organization. Scholars, universities, research institutes and industry partners from China and overseas exchanged views on frontier materials research, innovation and industrial application, while dedicated sessions on industry-enterprise exchange, project collaboration and technology transfer, together with a presentation from the University of Liberia, further strengthened China-Africa and international industry-academia-research connections.
The 2026 International Conference on the Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration and Application of Advanced Functional Materials was held from 10 to 12 September 2026 at the Liufang Campus of Wuhan Institute of Technology (WIT) in Wuhan, China.
Under the theme "Global Collaboration Unites Strength, Interdisciplinary Innovation Advances Materials," the three-day conference brought together scholars, researchers, universities, research institutes and industry representatives from China and overseas to exchange perspectives on frontier research, technological innovation, industrial application and international cooperation in advanced functional materials.
The International Academic Organizations Alliance (IAOA) participated as an international supporting organization, together with the Liberia Academy of Sciences (LAS) and Beijing Talent Technology Co., Ltd. The conference provided an opportunity for IAOA to further connect its international academic network with research, institutional and industry partners working across materials science and related interdisciplinary fields.
Connecting Frontier Research with Industrial Application
The conference was held under the guidance of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education and jointly hosted by the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Wuhan Institute of Technology and several major research platforms of the University, including research centres and laboratories working in phosphorus resources, plasma chemistry, advanced materials and novel catalytic materials.
The academic programme addressed a broad range of topics at the frontiers of materials science and chemistry, including OLED technologies, soft-matter systems, phase engineering of nanomaterials, contact-electrification interface chemistry, molecular crystals, single-atom catalysis, MXene materials, syngas conversion, graphene films, infrared functional window materials and low-dimensional perovskites.
Speakers included scholars from institutions in China, the Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia and Liberia, among them researchers from Sungkyunkwan University, IISER Kolkata, City University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Technology, Inha University, Nano Center Indonesia and the University of Liberia.
Through keynote and invited presentations, participants exchanged recent research findings while discussing the relationship between fundamental scientific discovery, technological development and potential industrial application.
Bringing an African Perspective into the Dialogue
An important international dimension of the conference was the participation of Sando Fahnbulleh of the University of Liberia, who delivered a presentation entitled:
"Applied Chemistry and Sustainable Innovation in Liberia: Opportunities for China-Africa Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration."
His presentation introduced an African perspective into the conference discussion by examining how applied chemistry, research capacity, higher education and international collaboration can contribute to locally relevant innovation and sustainable development.
The presentation also extended the discussion beyond individual materials technologies to the broader question of how universities, research organizations and international partners can strengthen research capacity and develop more effective pathways between scientific knowledge and practical needs.
For IAOA, such participation reflects the value of creating academic connections across regions and of bringing researchers from different scientific and institutional environments into a shared international dialogue.
Linking Research with Industry
Alongside the academic sessions, the conference established a dedicated Industry-Enterprise Exchange Session, bringing together university research teams and enterprise representatives to discuss technical needs, research capabilities, technology development and potential cooperation.
Participating enterprises represented sectors including phosphate chemicals, advanced energy materials, integrated circuits, carbon materials, lithium batteries, scientific instrumentation and other technology-intensive industries. The exchange was designed to strengthen communication between research supply and industrial demand and to identify potential pathways for joint research and technology transfer.
The wider three-day programme also included an International Project Collaboration Forum and a Technology Transfer Forum on 12 September, further extending the conference from academic exchange toward institutional cooperation and research-to-application dialogue.
Strengthening International Research Networks
The conference highlighted the increasingly interconnected nature of advanced materials research, where progress often depends on collaboration across chemistry, materials science, energy, environmental technologies, engineering and industrial application.
It also demonstrated that international academic exchange can extend beyond the presentation of research findings to encompass joint research, institutional partnerships, talent development, technology transfer and industry-academia engagement.
From IAOA's perspective, sustainable international academic cooperation should help create meaningful connections among researchers, institutions, knowledge, talent and real-world application.
IAOA will continue to support international academic exchange and institutional cooperation across regions and disciplines, while encouraging closer links among universities, research organizations, scientific communities and innovation partners.
Building on the connections established through the Wuhan conference, IAOA looks forward to further dialogue and cooperation in advanced materials, sustainable technologies, research capacity development and international industry-academia-research collaboration.
