Manuscript Template

Global Humanities and Social Sciences (GHSS) provides a flexible manuscript template to help authors prepare clear, complete and consistently formatted submissions.

Authors are encouraged to use the template when preparing a manuscript. However, the template is intended as a practical guide rather than a rigid disciplinary structure. Reasonably formatted manuscripts may also be considered, provided that they contain the required information and comply with the journal’s Author Guidelines.

Template Features

  • Core sections for the manuscript title, author information, abstract, keywords, main text, references and declarations.
  • Times New Roman, 12-point font, double line spacing and standard page margins.
  • APA 7th edition as the default reference style. Alternative citation conventions used in certain humanities disciplines may be accepted with prior editorial approval.
  • Consistent formatting for headings, subheadings, quotations, figures, tables and captions.
  • Optional line numbering to facilitate editorial assessment and external peer review.
  • Dedicated sections for relevant declarations, including Funding, Author Contributions, Competing Interests, Data Availability, Ethics Approval, Informed Consent and Acknowledgements.
  • A flexible structure that may be adapted according to the manuscript type, research approach and disciplinary conventions.

Usage Instructions

  1. Download the manuscript template and replace the placeholder text with your own content.
  2. Use the built-in styles for titles, headings, body text, quotations, tables, captions and references.
  3. Adapt the main-text structure to the manuscript type and relevant disciplinary conventions.
  4. Include all declarations and ethical information relevant to the manuscript.
  5. Check that the selected manuscript type, approximate word length and structure are consistent with the Manuscript Types and Author Guidelines pages.
  6. Remove all instructional notes and placeholder text before submission.
  7. Review the manuscript carefully to ensure that author information, references, figures, tables and supplementary materials are complete and accurate.

Flexible Disciplinary Structure

The template does not require every manuscript to follow the same section structure.

Empirical research articles may use sections such as Introduction, Literature Review, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion where appropriate. Humanities, theoretical, historical, interpretive and practice-based manuscripts may use alternative headings and structures suited to their subject matter and scholarly approach.

Authors may make reasonable adjustments to the template where required by disciplinary conventions, provided that the manuscript remains clearly organised and contains all necessary information.

The editorial office may request formatting adjustments during editorial assessment, revision or preparation for publication.

Before Submission

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should confirm that:

  • the manuscript falls within the journal’s Aims and Scope;
  • the appropriate manuscript type has been selected;
  • all authors and affiliations are correctly identified;
  • the abstract and keywords are included where required;
  • citations and references are complete and consistently formatted;
  • figures, tables and captions are numbered and clearly identified;
  • relevant declarations and ethical information have been included; and
  • all placeholder text and template instructions have been removed.
