Scientific Engineering

1. Before Submission

Authors should confirm that the manuscript fits the journal’s aims, areas of focus and manuscript types. The work must be original, not under consideration by another journal and prepared in accordance with the publication ethics policy.

2. Language

Manuscripts should be submitted in clear English. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of technical terminology, equations, units and references. Language quality may be considered during editorial screening when it prevents reliable assessment.

3. How to Submit

Submit the manuscript by email to se@iaoalliance.org. Use the subject line:

SE Submission – [Manuscript Type] – [Corresponding Author Surname]

Attach the manuscript in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx). A PDF may also be included for reference. Large figures, datasets or supplementary files may be supplied through a stable download link when necessary.

4. Initial Submission Format

Scientific Engineering uses a flexible initial-submission format. Authors are not required to match the final journal layout at first submission, but the manuscript must be complete, readable and consistently formatted. The journal template is recommended and may be requested during revision or production.

5. Title Page

Include:

• manuscript title;
• manuscript type;
• full names of all authors;
• institutional affiliations, city and country;
• corresponding author’s email address;
• ORCID identifiers where available;
• a short running title, if appropriate.

6. Abstract and Keywords

Research Articles, Review Articles, Engineering Case Studies and Technical Notes should include an abstract of approximately 150–250 words and 4–8 keywords. The abstract should state the purpose, approach, principal findings and main conclusion without unsupported claims.

7. Main Text

Research Articles will normally include Introduction, Methods or Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and relevant declarations. Alternative structures are acceptable when appropriate to the discipline or article type. Methods should be described in sufficient detail for evaluation and, where possible, replication.

8. Figures and Tables

Number figures and tables in the order cited. Provide a clear caption for every figure and a title for every table. Images should be legible and free of unnecessary decoration. Authors must have permission to reproduce third-party material. Editable tables are preferred.

9. Equations, Units and Nomenclature

Use SI units unless a recognised disciplinary convention requires otherwise. Define symbols, abbreviations and specialised terms at first use. Equations should be editable where possible and numbered when they are cited in the text.

10. References

References must be accurate, complete and consistently formatted. A numbered citation style is preferred. At initial submission, another recognised reference style may be accepted if it is used consistently. Authors should include DOI identifiers where available and avoid citing sources they have not read.

11. Required Declarations

Place the following statements before the references, using “Not applicable” where appropriate:

• Consent for Publication
• Acknowledgements
• Use of AI Tools

12. Authorship

All listed authors must have made a meaningful contribution, approved the submitted version and agreed to be accountable for their contribution. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged with their permission. Changes to authorship after submission require a written explanation and agreement from all affected authors.

13. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, personal data, animals, hazardous materials or sensitive locations must comply with applicable laws and institutional requirements. Manuscripts must identify relevant ethics approval, consent or permit information. Authors should explain when formal approval was not required.

14. Data and Reproducibility

Authors should make supporting data, code, protocols or materials available when legally, ethically and technically possible. Restrictions must be explained in the Data Availability statement. Fabrication, falsification, image manipulation and selective reporting are prohibited.

15. Artificial Intelligence Tools

AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain responsible for all submitted content. Material use of generative AI or similar tools in drafting, analysis, coding, image generation or translation must be disclosed in the manuscript, including the tool and purpose. Routine spelling or grammar assistance does not normally require detailed disclosure. Reviewers and editors must not upload confidential manuscripts to external AI systems without authorisation.

16. Previous Dissemination and Conference Papers

Posting a preprint does not automatically prevent consideration, but it must be disclosed. Manuscripts based on conference papers, proceedings or reports must contain substantial new material and clearly cite and explain the earlier version. Conference participation, presentation or nomination does not guarantee journal publication.

17. Editorial Assessment and Peer Review

Submissions are screened for scope, completeness, ethics and basic quality. Research content that proceeds will normally undergo single-anonymous external peer review. The journal may reject a manuscript without external review when it is outside scope, incomplete, ethically problematic or not sufficiently developed.

18. Revisions

Revised manuscripts should be accompanied by a point-by-point response explaining how each comment was addressed or why a change was not made. Changes should be clearly identifiable. A revision request is not a guarantee of acceptance.

19. After Acceptance

Accepted manuscripts may undergo copyediting, reference checking, formatting and proof correction. Authors are responsible for reviewing proofs promptly and limiting changes to corrections rather than new results.

20. Submission Checklist

Before sending the manuscript, confirm that:

• the work is original and not under review elsewhere;
• the corresponding author has approval from all co-authors;
• author names and affiliations are complete;
• the abstract, keywords, figures, tables and references are present;
• required declarations are included;
• permissions for third-party material have been obtained;
• any preprint, conference version, funding, conflict of interest or AI use has been disclosed.
